BoNT-A (Botulinum Toxin Type A)
Botox® (Onabotulinum A), Xeomin® (Incobotulinum A) and Dysport® (Abobotulinum A)
Botulinum toxin type A is an injectable medicine that is used to treat a variety of therapeutic and cosmetic conditions. Currently, there are 3 Botulinum Toxin Type A’s that are FDA approved; Botox®, Dysport®, and Xeomin®. Injectable Aesthetics use both Botox® and Xeomin® only.
How does Botox® Cosmetic and Xeomin® Cosmetic work?
The drug is a toxin produced by the Clostridium Botulinum bacteria, and it works by decreasing the nerve signals that are sent to muscles. When the muscle wants to contract, a nerve sends a message to that muscle telling it to move and contract. When this happens, a chemical called acetylcholine is released, and it binds to the muscle side of the junction causing the muscle to move. When Botox® and Xeomin® are injected, it blocks the acetylcholine from binding to the muscle side of the junction, thereby causing the muscle to be unable to contract or move.
What areas will Botox® and/or Xeomin® Cosmetic correct?
Botox® and Xeomin® help correct dynamic lines- lines that are caused by the many expressions we make on a daily basis. For example, concentrating, frowning, and squinting all cause hyper functioning of muscles and create dynamic frown lines. Some of them more common areas of treatment are the vertical lines in between the brow, horizontal forehead lines, and crow’s feet. However, other areas where Botox® and Xeomin® can be effective in the chin, in the muscle responsible for causing the mouth to turn downward, horizontal lines and neck bands, as well as axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).
What can I expect after treatment?
Immediately following treatment, the skin where the injections occurred may appear red with a whelp-like appearance. However, this will resolve within 30 minutes to an hour after treatment and the skin will look as it did prior to treatment. Unlike dermal filler where the results are immediate, Botox® and Xeomin® take about 3-5 days before results begin to be noticed. Each day, results will get better and better, with full effect taking place at 14 days.
Botox® and Xeomin® are temporary and last 3 to 4 months in most people. Bruising and swelling are rare.

Dermal Fillers
Radiesse
What is Radiesse®?
Radiesse® is a large molecule, calcium based filler whose unique formulation stimulates collagenases (the production of new collagen). Radiesse® is made of microspheres of calcium suspended in a natural gel. As we age, our own natural collagen breaks down, causing the volume in our face to diminish. The loss of elasticity results in wrinkles, facial lines, and skin laxity. Radiesse® works to replenish volume by welcoming back the skin’s own natural collagen.
Where can Radiesse® be placed in the face, and how long does it last?
Typically, in most patients, Radiesse® will last between 12 and 18 months. Radiesse® can be placed in most of the same areas that an HA (hyaluronic acid) can be placed, such as the nasolabial folds (lines that radiate from the corner of the nose to the edge of the mouth), marionette lines (lines that run downward from the outer corners of the mouth along the outside of the chin), and the pre-jowl sulcus (areas on the side of the chin). One of the most common uses of Radiesse® is in the cheeks. Augmentation of this area can provide the patient with nice, round plump cheeks where they have lost volume. Augmenting the cheeks also helps to lift and lend support to the overall facial structure. Another common placement of Radiesse® is the jawline to help augment the jaw and provide a younger more defined jaw line, with less skin laxity. Radiesse® cannot be used in the lips.
What can I expect after my treatment?
Radiesse® is a simple, non-surgical treatment that causes minimal recovery or downtime. Bruising and swelling may occur, but generally are minimal. In most cases, patients are able to return to their normal daily routine within 24-48 hours.

Bellafill®
What is Bellafill®?
Is a unique, injectable collagen filler with microspheres that can instantly smooth facial wrinkles (nasolabial folds) for beautiful, natural-looking correction that is FDA approved to last 5 years.

Hyaluronic Acids
Juvederm Ultra and Ultra Plus®
Juvederm® is a smooth gel filler made of hyaluronic acid. Juvederm® is manufactured using HYLACROSS technology, which causes the molecule to be smooth in its consistency. This allows the gel to be placed evenly and smoothly under the skin, helping to soften and remove wrinkles without losing the natural appearance of the face. Juvederm last up to 12 months.
Juvéderm™ VOLUMA™
Juvederm™ Voluma™ is the latest of the Juvederm range of hyaluronic acid fillers specifically designed to restore volume in areas of volume loss. Common areas include the cheeks, cheekbones, and chin. Additionally, due to its versatility it is also suitable for adding definition to the jaw line. Voluma is the only Hyaluronic Acid that is FDA approved to last up to two years.
Belotero Balance®
Belotero Balance® is a hyaluronic acid dermal filler designed to treat superficial lines and mild to moderate wrinkles on the face. It is very natural looking and adds subtle volume and plumpness to facial tissue. Since the gel is softer than most other products on the market, it integrates into facial skin more easily and adapts well to facial contours. Belotero Balance® may last 6 to 9 months.
Where can a HA (Hyaluronic Acid) be placed in the face, and how long will it last?
HA fillers, such as, Juvederm® and Belotero Balance® are extremely smooth in consistency. Therefore, the HA can be placed in several different areas of the face in order to help smooth away lines and rejuvenate ones overall appearance. Some of the more common areas of treatment are the nasolabial folds (the line from the edge of the nose to the corner of the mouth), marionette lines (lines that run downward from the outer corners of the mouth along the outside of the chin), oral commissures (lines or folds extending downward from the corners of the mouth), perioral lines (vertical lines radiating from the edge of the lip upward), as well as augmentation of the lips. HA fillers can also be placed in the eye troughs, the area located directly under the eye, to help fill in and soften the hallowing that is often prevalent underneath eyes.
What can I expect after my treatment?
Juvederm® and Belotero Balance® are simple, nonsurgical wrinkle treatments, there is minimal recovery or downtime, and the results are instant. Minimal bruising can occur in some instances as well as swelling. In most cases, patients are able to continue their normal daily activities without downtime.

KYBELLA®
What is Kybella®?
Kybella: During the natural aging process, a loss of volume often happens in the lower face, resulting in a “double chin” appearance. Kybella injection is a non-surgical, minimally invasive alternative to double chin elimination. Comprised of deoxycholic acid, Kybella is FDA approved for the treatment of moderate to severe submental fat. Deoxycholic acid is found naturally in the body and helps absorb fat. When injected into the chin area, Kybella destroys fat cells and restores definition in your facial profile. Traditionally, excess fat in the chin has been extracted with liposuction or facial surgeries. While these also remove chin fat, they also require extensive recovery and healing. Kybella is a non-surgical, painless alternative that allows the patient to return to normal activities much sooner. More than one treatment is typically required to achieve optimal results. Studies have shown that tightening of the skin to the submental area happens as well which is an added benefit.
What are the possible side effects of KYBELLA®?
The most common side effects of KYBELLA® include: swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness, and areas of hardness in the treatment area.
These are not all of the possible side effects of KYBELLA®. Call the Injectable Aesthetics staff for medical advice about side effects.

PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma)
What is PRP?
PRP is a natural product created from your own body. A small amount of blood is drawn from you and placed in a sterile tube that is spun down in a centrifuge to separate the different components of the blood. Red and white blood cells are divided from the platelets and the plasma (the clear fluid). This plasma now contains a higher than normal number of platelets and is called platelet rich plasma, or PRP.
Why Platelets Rejuvenate Skin?
Platelets are the cells in the blood that help tissue to heal and grow new cells. The PRP, injected into specific areas of the skin, acts as a matrix that promotes your own collagen to grow, regenerates tissue, and thus acts as to naturally reverse signs of aging.
What to expect during and after the procedure?
A small amount of blood is drawn from you. While the PRP is being prepared, your skin will be cleansed and prepared for the treatment. The procedure is quick (1 hour with numbing cream) and relatively painless. Mild swelling, redness and bruising fade within 1-3 days. The PRP is made from your own cells, virtually eliminating the possibility of negative side effects.
Results
The goal of PRP skin rejuvenation therapy is to improve skin tone and texture, correct brown spots and soften fine lines around eyes and diminish pore size. Results begin to show 3-4 weeks after the treatment session and continue to improve with time. Treatment sessions are recommended based on the problem areas that are being addressed. Where 1 treatment might eliminate and help with pore size, 3 treatments might be necessary for acne scarring and stretch marks. Free consultations are best to discuss any questions or concerns you may have.
PRP can be combined with dermal fillers and Botulinum Toxin, Type A to best target a patient’s unique issues and thus achieve the final goal of youthful looking skin. Maintenance PRP treatments should be given over time.
