Botox® OKC

BONT-A (BOTULINUM TOXIN TYPE A)

If you’re looking for the best Botox® in Oklahoma City make sure you pick the right provider. We’ve been performing Botox injections for well over 14 years and our patients keep coming back to us!

Botox® is an extremely effective way to reduce wrinkles and fine lines in areas where aging is most commonly noticed, the facial area. This non-invasive treatment is administered by injection into facial muscles, repairing years of skin damage in just minutes. Fine lines develop as a result of both skin condition and the contraction of underlying muscles in the face. Botox® treatments work by temporarily preventing muscles in the treated areas from contracting and has become an excellent option for individuals who want to achieve smoother, youthful skin without surgery.

Botox® FAQs

What is Botox®?

Botox® is a drug made from a toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It is used medically to treat certain muscular conditions and cosmetically to treat unwanted lines and wrinkles on the face by relaxing facial muscles

How does Botox® Cosmetic work?

Botox® Cosmetic targets one of the underlying causes of frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines — the repeated muscle contractions from frowning, squinting, smiling and raising the eyebrows over the years. When a facial muscle wants to move, before it can do so, our brain must send a signal to that muscle telling it to move. When this happens, a chemical called acetylcholine is released. Once Botox® is injected into a muscle of the face, it blocks the release of acetylcholine, thereby causing the signal to never reach the muscle.

How much is Botox®?

Botox® is priced by the unit. At our office, Botox® is $11.00/unit and Jeaveau® is $10.00/unit. The average amount of units per patient varies from 20-50 units.

What is the Botox® Lip Flip?

By injecting Botox® into the orbicularis oris muscle at the vermillion border of the lip, it reduces the horizontal pull of the muscle surrounding the mouth, and allows the lip vertically to elevate or to slightly evert and “show more pink.” However, this treatment is very subtle and is not a good representation of what filler in the lip would like. However, it does give the lip a slight eversion, as well as help with perioral lines around the mouth.

Is Botox® safe?

Botox® was FDA approved for therapeutic use in 1989. In 1992, it became known that Botox® could be used cosmetically to reduce lines and wrinkles on the face. Since then, there have been over 20 million Botox® procedures performed in the US, with little to no long term complications. Botox® is safe and effective. Choosing the right practitioner or nurse who understands the facial muscles as well as has experience injecting Botox®, can help not only to achieve your desired result but also ensure you have a safe treatment. Short term complications such as eyelid drooping and mouth drooping can occur from injecting the Botox® into the wrong muscle, so it is very important to choose who will do your Botox® treatment wisely.

What areas will Botox® correct?

Some of the most common areas to inject Botox® are in between the brows, the forehead and crow’s feet. Botox® can also be injected in the lower face as well. Lower face Botox® isn’t as asked about by patients, but lower face injections are equally as effective. Those include injections of Botox® around the mouth, into a downturned mouth to help lift the corners of the mouth, pebbly chin, platysmal bands, horizontal necklace lines, and teeth grinding.

What can I expect after treatment?

Botox® is simple, easy, and typically doesn’t hurt when it’s injected. After the treatment, patients look like a mosquito stung them many times. The red whelps will go away about 10 min after treatment. Botox® typically doesn’t cause any bruising or downtime. Botox® begins to work 3-4 days post injection, and results continue to improve for up to 14 days.

How long does Botox® last?

Botox® lasts 3-4 months. At that time, it will need to be re-injected to maintain the result.

Does Botox® work for migraines?

Botox® is FDA approved for the treatment of migraines. It is common knowledge among injectors, that if a patient’s headaches are related primarily to tension, Botox® injected in between the brows, forehead, and temporalis muscle will often improve or alleviate a patient’s headaches completely. True migraine sufferers, whose problem is more extensive and more muscles are involved, require more extensive treatment. These treatments are typically performed by a neurologist after other conservative measures have been attempted and failed.

Is Botox® only for women?

Having been injecting for many years, I can tell you that in the beginning, Botox® injections were done primarily by female patients. However, the face of aesthetics is changing and more and more men are doing aesthetic treatments now, including Botox®. In fact, many aesthetic companies are using men on the front of their brochures, simply because men were an untapped market for many years. Now I see a lot more men in my office.

Is there a generic for Botox®?

There is not a generic for Botox®. There are 3 other pharmaceutical companies that have their version of a product similar to Botox®. Each company uses the same botulinum toxin Type-A in their formula, but each formula is individual and specific to each company. All of the neurotoxins are FDA approved in the United States. The 4 neurotoxins are Botox®, Xeomin®, Dysport®, and Jeaveau®.
